Assistant Controller – Full-Time

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join a dynamic finance and accounting team as Assistant Controller, supporting diverse operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Performance of monthly accounting closings for owned and managed operations across multiple business segments
  • Preparation and analysis of financial statements to provide management with a basis for measuring business performance and financial position
  • Perform sensitivity and financial impact analyses to monitor and evaluate businesses’ financial performance
  • Assist in assessment of proposed business transactions, projects and strategies
  • Present financial results of operations with budget variance and other analysis, including insights from trends and market comparative analysis
  • Constant monitoring, evaluation and troubleshooting of accounting systems, including consulting with users and SaaS providers
  • Preparation of year-end audit working papers and draft financial statements;

Budgeting

  • Coordinate with and assist business managers in the preparation of annual operating, capital and other business budgets and goals
  • Facilitate financial planning, revenue projections and expense monitoring to aid management teams in achieving goals;

Audit & Internal Control

  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining procedures to ensure efficient and accurate reporting of information required to support financial reporting, tax and regulatory compliance, as well as financial planning
  • Assist in the implementation and coordination of internal audit testing and reporting

Education/Skills & Experience Required:

  • Must have post-secondary degree in finance/business and possess a formal CPA accounting designation or in process of qualifying
  • 2-5 years’ experience in a finance function with a range of accounting and reporting responsibilities
  • Advanced IT competency with emphasis on MS Excel and ERP system
  • Superior collaborative skills to maximize results while working with Finance team members and operational managers across diverse businesses
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Ontario and to the USA

Executive Director – Full-Time

As an Executive Director (ED) at Empress Gardens, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of our retirement residence and for promoting an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality for our residents. Reporting to the Vice President, the ED will effectively utilize his/her team leadership skills to motivate and engage their team to provide care to the highest standard. The ED will maximize operational excellence while building a strong community comprised of meaningful and productive relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and achieve the Home’s financial objectives through budget development and ongoing management of financial results throughout the year
  • Deliver on the home’s annual Net Operating Income objective and provide performance reporting to Senior Management, highlighting emerging issues and any required corrective action(s)
  • Ensure that appropriate levels of care are provided to residents through effective staffing and use of resources
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures to ensure standards of care and safety are met and that resources are effectively utilized
  • Effectively utilize and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure the highest quality of care is provided, ensuring compliance to regulatory and company standards at all times
  • Participate in the selection, development, and motivation of a skilled multidisciplinary team of employees
  • Lead labour relations within the Home and provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance monitoring to staff, taking corrective action when necessary
  • Coordinate positive interactions with resident family contacts and promote family involvement within the retirement community
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator and other Executive Directors to maintain and enhance occupancy levels within the Home
  • Actively engage in various public relations initiatives throughout the year to enhance and support the positive image of the Home within the community
  • Promote opportunities for cooperation with our sister-Homes to optimize service delivery to residents and the effective use of shared resources
  • Represent the Home at relevant community, professional, and civic meetings
  • Provide oversight and leadership for Health & Safety programs such as Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) and Fire Prevention; Ensure that health and safety policies and guidelines are in place and adhered to
  • Ensure effective reporting and documentation is maintained, performing audits

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years of equivalent experience in a Retirement Residence, Long Term Care Home, hospitality industry, or general management
  • Possesses sound judgement and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to liaison with, and have familiarity of, the workings of the Ministry of Health, LHIN, the hospital and other community resources
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead an efficient, productive workforce is essential
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Associate Director of Care (ADOC) – Full-Time

The ADOC will also:

  • Perform new resident assessments, develop Plans of Care, and oversee Plan of Care delivery

Qualifications:

  • Current license as Registered Nurse (RN) from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 2-3 years experience - preferably in a long-term care setting. Previous supervisory experience and knowledge of LTC standards preferred
  • Composure, demonstrated leadership skills, and sound judgment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be available to respond to on-call and emergency needs outside of normal working hours

Qualifications:

  • Valid RPN Registration with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of medication administration practices.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Experience in geriatric nursing considered an asset.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts.

As a Personal Support Worker, we will rely upon you to assist our residents in their activities of daily living, providing skilled care in an empathetic and nurturing manner. Reporting to the Director of Care, you will be responsible for providing hands-on care to residents including assistance with personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, mobility, and other emotional and social aspects of daily life. You will maintain and promote good communication with staff, enhance customer service to residents/families, and ensure the efficient use of resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on compassionate delivery of skilled services to residents in the provision of care with adherence to confidentiality, privacy, and a focus on maintaining dignity.
  • Assist residents with the personal care required for daily living including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, functional mobility and mobilization, feeding, wound care, oral care, etc.
  • Attend and actively participate in developmental in-services, department meetings, and/or seminars and external continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication while promoting teamwork and good relationships with co-workers; Interact with residents and their families in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner at all times.
  • Respond to resident and family concerns promptly and in a manner that optimizes resident dignity, promotes independence, and is sensitive to any physical and/or emotional challenges they may face.

Resident Support Attendant – Part-Time

We are looking for Resident Support Attendants to join our highly skilled health care team. As a Resident Support Attendant (RSA), you will utilize your empathy and compassionate nature to positively influence and impact the lives of our residents in their activities of daily living. You will assist in providing personal care services and maintaining a safe environment for residents, visitors, and staff members at all times.

Responsibilities include:

  • Portering residents to onsite programming, dining rooms, family visits, and other areas as needed or requested.
  • Assisting Personal Support Workers and registered staff in the provision of intimate care related services and resident lifts/transfers as required.
  • Performing tasks such as bed-making, changing linens, daily cleaning tasks, sanitizing touch points, etc.
  • Providing assistance with nutrition by: delivering snack carts, coaching and encouraging residents throughout meals, setting the dining room and clearing dishes as required.
  • Promoting and contributing to a positive teamwork environment.

Cook – Part-Time

Reporting to the Dining Supervisor, the Cook prepares high quality, nutritionally balanced meals for residents, following approved recipes and ensuring that portion control, temperature, and food presentation guidelines are adhered to. Ensure that public health regulations pertaining to sanitation and food preparation, storage, and disposal are followed and that Company and RHA standards are adhered to. You will help to set menus, prepare meals, and direct Dietary Aides in basic food preparation and meal service.

Qualifications:

  • Two years experience & a valid Safe Food Handler's Certificate, diploma in Culinary Management or a Red Seal Chef designation preferred.
  • Must have Smart Serve certification or be willing to obtain.
  • Experience in volume food cooking and preparation preferred.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic diets & nutritional standards for seniors an asset.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Available to work weekends, varied shifts, call-ins, and holidays as assigned.

The Dietary Aide (server) is responsible for professional table service supporting a superior dining experience for residents and at caterings and special events. Must be prompt, thorough and responsive to residents' needs; communicate residents' concerns to Cook and Supervisor-Dining Services in a timely appropriate manner; takes action to satisfy the residents promptly and in a pleasant manner. Must be able to take meal selections, understand various meal plans and complete job duties in assigned time. The Server assists with routine operations including preparation, clearing, cleaning of dining rooms; washing dishes; general tasks in dining services setting and following Dining Services policies and procedures or direction of the Cook, Completes documentation as required. Handles food, dishware and utensils according to Public Health Standards.

Qualifications:
  • Safe Food Handler's, SmartServe and WHMIS certification mandatory. Food Service Worker's certificate or enrollment in course an asset.
  • Experience in table service in a hotel/restaurant or institutional setting helpful. Catering and Special events experience an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in formal service setting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Housekeeper/Laundry Aide – Part-Time

Working collaboratively with other members of the Environmental Services team and following departmental policies and procedures, the Housekeeping Attendant is responsible to ensure that resident personal spaces, buildings, grounds, and common areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner that meets or exceeds resident and family expectations, as well as ORCA and Company standards. As Laundry Aide, you will be responsible for providing laundry services including resident and common laundry for the Home as per Company standards.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in housekeeping/laundry in an institutional setting preferred.
  • Self motivated with strong communication skills.
  • Polite demeanour and neat appearance, able to comply with company dress-code.
  • Dependable, able to maintain a good record of attendance and availability.
  • Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions in the English language.
  • Must be able to work weekends, varied shifts and holidays as assigned.
  • Must adhere to Company's immunization policies as required.
